Meet Katherine Chipps

Katherine grew up in a strong Union family in Toledo. She proudly graduated from Toledo Public Schools, and first attended the University of Toledo. After moving to the Columbus area in 2002, she finished her degree at Ohio Dominican University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Business Management.
Katherine began her career in television production, as a production assistant, newscast director, and graphic artist. But after becoming more involved in the community and running for the Ohio Senate in 2004, she decided to change career directions. She worked as an Aide in the Ohio Senate for the former Senate Minority Whip, Teresa Fedor. After that, she was offered a position at the Ohio Secretary of State’s office when Jennifer Brunner took office. She was promoted from Regional Liaison to Regional Services Director shortly before the 2008 election. She also served on the management team of the voting machine study, Project EVEREST, worked with the 88 county boards of elections and managed several employees. She also helped craft the guidelines for Ohio's first post election audit. After leaving the SOS office, Katherine served as Policy and Communications Director for Clean Fuels Ohio. She worked at the State and Federal levels educating legislators on uses of alternative fuels in transportation. She worked to get provisions passed into law that expanded the definition of alternative fuels and helped save a state grant program that was slated to be eliminated.
In 2012 she co-founded Grassroots Strategies. The business quickly grew and became a large design, printing, mail house, screen printing, and embroidery business serving Central Ohio. With both owners having strong Union backgrounds, they unionized the shop in 2015 and became members of Teamsters Graphic Communications Conference District Council 3.
Katherine resides in Blacklick Estates with her two rescue dogs, Magoo and JoJo.
